How to Grow Your Faith – An analogy to developing a robust faith life….enjoy these 10 Tips to spiritual weeding.
As Winter starts to give way to Spring, green can be found everywhere, including those pesky weeds.
I love to see God in nature, so as I have been weeding, I realized the principles for physical weeding can certainly be applied to spiritual weeding.
I hope you find these tips for spiritual weeding useful and practical to your faith walk.
1. Know the season for weeds
Spring is an indicator of the coming weed onslaught. Know your vulnerabilities and weaknesses regarding your faith and begin weeding early. Seek prayer or guidance from a fellow believer.
2. Learn a weed from a flower
Some weeds have flowers, which can be deceiving. Don’t assume good from what needs to be pulled in your life to accommodate growth.
3. Make a Plan for weeding
This is a tremendous help to combating procrastination. Pursue regular Bible reading, devotional time, and worship; a plan keeps you on track.
4. Gather the proper tools
You can’t weed with a pencil; correct tools should be used for maximum benefit. Spiritually this would be your Bible; not your own self will.
5. Set a schedule to weed
Weeding once a month will not be the most productive. The consistent weeder finds success and relief. Allowing yourself to feel good based on one day of weeding will not conquer your faith challenges but only delay putting a problem to rest. Be consistent in your relationship with the Lord.
6. Remove the weed with the root
Failing to do so will result in continuous weeds. If you only address the surface of a problem or behavior, you never achieve genuine change. Keep yourself from the cycle of ups and downs. Join a Bible study group or seek a spiritual mentor to help you pull those weeds in your life.
7. Throw the weeds away
Don’t just leave them on the dirt; they will sprout and grow again. The key to success in spiritual weeding is getting rid of the distractions that keep you from a faith-fulfilled life.
8. Ensure you double-check for any missed weeds
The smallest weed left behind can sprout into a full-blown bush. Believers are called to continually renew their faith, to keep it fresh for proper growth.
9. Celebrate your hard work of weeding
Thank the Lord! He loves you and prays for your continued growth in Him. He celebrates with you!
10. Help others to weed
When we accomplish spiritual weeding with success, we can assist and support others as they go through their weeding process. Pray for them, love them, and help them.
