Do you struggle with consistently studying the Bible? Some reasons may be; little time, lack of energy, stage in life, not a study type, or unmotivated. Mixing up the ways we study the Bible will help break the cycle you may find yourself. Strive for a well-rounded approach, a robust portion of formal study sprinkled with other options.
What options are available to study God’s Word?
Formal Bible Studies
Book of the Bible Study – Either learning concepts within each book or verse-by-verse.

Topical Study – Examples could include; facing fears, learning hospitality, or growing strong faith. Often you can start your topical study using the concordance in the back of your Bible and searching the given verses.
Person Study – A person study focuses on a person in the Bible; Ruth, Joshua, Peter, etc. Person studies can be encouraging by looking through the lens of another person’s life to see how they dealt with a situation, lived their life, or struggled with something.

Online Study – Online Bible study apps can be done individually or as a group. Check out and download The Bible App
Devotionals
Books – Devotional books are designed for daily use. Devotional books can be topical subjects or specific groups, such as Mom’s, Dad’s, Teens, Working Folks, and Encouragement. Online formats are also an option. One of my favorites is Streams in the Desert, a long-time devotional classic.
Scripture Cards – These can be individual index size cards with verses, use them in your vehicles, on your desk, or anywhere else you choose. Start with Proverbs to Live By. These cards help set your mind and heart to focus on a specific scripture verse. Consider checking out a deeper approach through Scripture Engagement from BibleGateway.com
Other Formats
Meditation – Taking the time to fully absorb a verse or a daily reading section of the Bible. Returning your mind throughout the day to understand, think, or apply what you read. Meditating on the Psalms is place to start, check out Prayers, Praise & Promises.
Art – For my art friends or those just needing some solitude time. Coloring scripture books provide reflection time through design and color. They are relaxing and enjoyable. Check out a Bible Verse Coloring Book for Adults.
Prayer/Nature Walk – For my nature friends. Enjoy a walk and worship the Lord, pray and talk to Him, and find peace in His creation. Check out local trails, or, if you have more time, a state park for a hike and picnic. Consider downloading CBN Radio, to your phone. There are several Christian music genres to select from, and it’s free.
Hopefully this has inspired you to discover new ways to study or add some layers to your daily study time. Share what method you enjoy, or would like to pursue.
